Swirling liquids and dense noisy air were needed for Sano to eventually fall. In a place where internal and external demands are pushed to the limit, a body becomes the involuntary vessel for the consequences. What remains (a fluttering pile of skin) begins the search for a new structure, forcing its own recovery by assembling parts from others.
Sano is a series of works exploring the experience of a distorted self and societal disarray. Through a blend of moving images, soundscapes, painting and sculpture, the project questions a body’s adaptability as well as its conflicting desire to cling and surrender. After the inevitable fall, it is the silent creatures of the sea that serve as master surgeons, collecting and stitching together the remains. The project is supported by The Åland Island Cultural Delegation, The Swedish Cultural Fund in Finland and The Society of Swedish Literature in Finland
