A research team is on an expedition to look for a rare hermaphrodite creature, a leech, in a remote area. During the search for the bloodsucker in the dark, winding cave, friction arises between those present, which is sometimes based on stereotypical gender attributions and leads to escalation. Despite the disagreements, the researchers have to find a way to leave the cave together and get back to freedom.
The stage design concept develops from 3 x hanging curtains in a semi transparent stretch material, serving as flexible but constant stage elements. A moldable sand bag is attached in the bottom of each curtain, offering a space in constant change, communicating and highlighting the story through the bodily interaction. In the last scene actors, costume and stage all merge into one and same: a crawling leech. From inside the creature we get rapports from the characters through a live camera, streamed and projected on the base curtains. Further the visual stage elements plays with the contrasts of digital and analog media, of abstraction and concretisation, of silent and loud, inseperably supporting the main questions of the plot, problematisising the gender-specific expectations from society.
